Safety Tips for the home in emergency
Home Security
Home security is something we all need to know. I can never remember where things are supposed to turn to turn off ', gas, water or electricity, so I got my husband to give me a quick tour through our house in order to provide better security of What this House (and share it with all my readers, of course).
Safety gas
The first rule is always Turn right in a clockwise direction to turn off a valve.
Pop my website, [http://www.buildyourownhosue.ca], to see the images of the gas line, electrical box and exciting images of the toilet! I took a lot of shots so you can easily recognize these areas around your home. (By the way, note how the satellite dish is located in a beautiful sheltered position - never put a satellite dish in ... It'll just get damaged and then you lose your favorite programs, and don 't want that!)
To turn off the gas, you must turn the valve clockwise until the two holes match up. Use a wrench or Crescent wrench for this, so be sure to have one at hand - perhaps with the front entrance or on the same gas-line. (Odd side note: when my son, Aidan, was 3 years old, he loved his Crescent Wrench so that kept him as a child when she was watching television Funny And 'The son of a builder, all right!)
You must turn off the gas if someone has never worked on the pipeline (the holes are there so that you can lock in an off position, while the work was done).
O
If you have any doubt a gas leak - you could smell the gas in the house. Call the Gas Company, closing the throttle. Stay out of the house until it arrives.
O
If there is a fire in your home and you can safely get to the gas-line without any chance of you getting hurt, run over and turn off the gas.
Electrical Safety
The electrical panel is usually located in the Boiler Room.
The Switch Big Black at the bottom of the panel is the switch main switch.
In case of emergency (like when you see smoke or fire coming out of a plugin), and it is safe to do so, go to control panel and turn off the main breaker.
Problem: is using the microwave and the toaster at the same time, and the power turns on for both.
Solution: Go to the board. Most of 'Breakers (other switches) will be clearly marked with the name of their room service. Identify what you think most closely fits the problem and then press the switch on the opposite side. This should solve the problem. You may need to try a couple of switches to get the power back to your devices (or wherever they are required).
Be careful not to use the same combination of energy use for the future - find another plug for the toaster, or use it after you are done with the microwave. (Not sure why this is a difficult combination - probably because of the power load ...)
CAUTION:
It 's important that you never, NEVER open the cabinet. Could cause serious injury or death. Do not take chances with electricity. Contact an electrician to fix any serious problems.
Problems of water
Okay, water flows out of the dishwasher or a tap is broken - what to do, what to do?
Vai to the Boiler Room (Room Utility). Switching off the main water valve. Turn the valve clockwise (right) to close them.
Water supply shut-off levers look great (often Red and Yellow) or a bigger house, the round knob handles. They are usually on an angled pipe.
The lever is open when it is flush with the tube in a vertical position.
The lever is closed when it is in a horizontal position to the tube.
Call your plumber.
See if you have a yellow lever in the Boiler Room. This is the main water valve.
And now for the toilet ... have you seen Bernie Mac (one of my favorite shows!) episode where Wanda discovers the Toilet overflowing? It 's the worst nightmare of every woman (or one of the worst!) ...
Well, I can not see anything without connecting it to my site in some way, so I asked Dwight immediatley please show me how to deal with that ... so as to appear on my site (www.buildyourownhouse.ca) for some beautiful pictures of the toilet.
Ok, now you're looking at the toilet. There is a pipe at the base of it. See the little lever? All you have to do is turn the handle clockwise (right) until it is horizontal (closed). That's it!
Now you will probably still a bit 'of water to clean up crap, but at least you have stopped more water out. Now you can call your plumber! Squeak open your wallet!
Home Security Learn how easy it can be? Mainly, it's about being aware of what can happen and some ideas of how to solve the problem. Just remember: take care of what you, yourself, then call a professional if it is dangerous or too disgusting for words! ...
