9 Simple Steps for Proactive Public Relations
If you are a small business run from home, or a large company with hundreds of employees, you need to do public relations. In this article, I will show you a 9 step process to plan public relations to ensure it is more productive. Here are the steps to follow:
* Select your target audience-no matter what your business is, you will not be able to sell at all. Yes, it would be nice to be able to reach all 6 billion people, but not just happen. Customize your message to the right target.
* Survey them to check their current knowledge levels-You can not have to directly detect, but the Internet search engines help you evaluate your target audience beliefs. A quick google search forum and control related to your business should be able to understand their current levels of knowledge.
* Look at how they are reacting with their current state of knowledge-The target audience not only knows something, to formulate opinions based around this 'knowledge'. What does your target audience think about the situation?
* Set your goals for the campaign-Just like in business, if you plan to do public relations, you need to plan your campaign. This is the definition of the objectives of what you want to get more web hits, changing government regulations, etc.
* Select your public relations strategy-After setting your goals, the strategy is your overall plan to achieve your goals. This is what you need to achieve to reach your goals.
* Decide what your message will be persuasive-Once you have developed your goals and strategies, you must figure out what to say to those people who come. What do you tell them to achieve your goals.
* Decide on what tactics and tools you would use-What will you do to fulfill your strategy. Want to write press releases? Want to write a blog? What say you participate in forums or combine many of these tactics?
* Monitor for changes in knowledge and beliefs, public relations objectives and messages can be broadly defined as building reputation or changing beliefs. You need to monitor what is being said to see if your reputation has been enhanced or affected persons are to your beliefs.
* Monitor for behavior change is not enough to have changed the beliefs of someone, you want to see a change in behavior, if that means acting like or want to purchase more of your product. This is the end result we are looking for.
A sound public relations plan is something that all companies should have, however, is often sadly under-utilized by entrepreneurs because they have no knowledge of public relations programming. This article has given you a basic understanding of the planning of public relations and I hope it will be the springboard to bigger and better things .......
